Weber Shandwick: Taking Time Out for the Seattle Community

Giving back is part of our DNA here at Weber Shandwick Seattle. Since the beginning, we’ve been proud of the amount of pro bono work we’ve been able to do with local nonprofits, including a number of unique local programs outside of our day-to-day client work, as a way to get involved in our community. This includes Weber Shandwick OnLoan, a program across our offices that provides every staff member with time to devote to community engagement and volunteering.

Our first quarterly stop for our Seattle team took us to meet a fabulous group of women and children at Union Gospel Mission’s Hope Place. Built to serve as a transitional housing shelter in South Seattle, Hope Place is one of the few facilities in Seattle that accepts women with male children up to age 18. Upon arrival, we were ushered into the building’s bright, cheery halls and led to the enormous kitchens, complete with rows of spices and stacks of homemade pastries. We had the chance to meet with and serve the residents a special brunch – a meal that was quite a hit with the community. The afternoon’s activities included serving up some delicious French toast, assisting residents, and participating in post-meal clean-up.

Over the course of the visit, we met a ton of great women, all of whom seemed happy to call Hope Place home for the time being. One of the women shared some of the ins-and-outs of Hope Place, which she said offers classes, childcare, exercise facilities and a learning center. Some of the residents came to lunch laughing after their Denise Austin workout class, while others rolled in smiling toddlers in strollers. The afternoon flew by and left the team eager to eventually return to Hope Place’s inviting kitchen. Thank you for having us!

In the coming months, Weber Shandwick Seattle plans to participate in quarterly OnLoan outings throughout the city, including the Westlake Plaza holiday carousel benefiting Treehouse in December. Our office has supported this cause in previous years and we look forward to it again this year.

Visit the blog in coming months for more updates on our latest ventures into the city and for ideas on how you can get involved in your own community.
